1 Charlotte Gascoigne reflects on what WiP did for women in the publishing industry
I think it supported a lot of women. I think it raised the profile of issues. Those research reports – Twice as Many, Half as Powerful, the Bentinck Group report, the one on childcare – just having that information, I think it, you know, raised the profile of women in publishing, made people think differently. When you read in black and white a man saying “I don’t really approve of the woman who’s on our board because she’s got children and she should be at home with the children”, um [laughs], putting that out there as this is actually what people think, I think that’s important. And you know WiP did a huge amount to raise the profile of women and the issues that women in publishing were facing.
