2 Jane Gregory reads letters between WiP and Pink Pig recipient Auberon Waugh

Transcript:

‘Dear Miss Gregory,
Thank you for sending my Pink Pig, which was perfectly delicious. I’m sorry that I had news of my Pink Pig long before it arrived. In its absence, assumed that it was all a confidence trick. I wrote some fairly austere lines in Private Eye about this. Now it has arrived, I will make amends. Please congratulate the cook. No doubt she will make an ideal wife for some lucky man
Best wishes,
Yours sincerely
Auberon Waugh’

That was the 5th of January 1982. And on the 9th of January I wrote back

‘Dear Mr Waugh,
Thank you very much for your letter of the 5th of January. I’m so pleased that you found the Pink Pig delicious.
I thought you might like to know that the Pink Pig was made by Maison Bertaux in Greek Street, where, I believe, the chef is a man. Just going to prove that even the woman’s traditional role is threatened.
With best wishes’
