WiP inspired women to set up other similar groups in the UK. WiP’s first conference in 1983 resulted in Oxford WiP. By the mid-1990s there were regional contacts in Scotland, the North West, the North East, East Anglia and Sussex.
Meanwhile, WiP had stands at the London Book Fair, the Frankfurt Book Fair – where WiP's annual party became a ‘go to’ event – and the International Feminist Book Fair (launched in 1984). At the WiP Frankfurt party in 1990, women in German publishing and bookselling announced German WiP (later to be called Bücherfrauen).
The WiP International Committee was born, liaising with contacts in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Hong Kong, India, the Republic of Ireland, the Philippines, the USA. This was networking on a grand scale.
